Factsheet - ITE Launches New Cyber Security Lab to Boost Cyber Security Training

Dr Janil Puthucheary, Senior Minister of State for Communications and Information and Health officiated at the launch of a new Cyber Security Lab at ITE College East today. Designed and modelled after a Next-Generation Security Operations Centre (SOC), the new Lab will provide an authentic training environment for students preparing for a career in the Cyber Security industry. The new training facility is made possible through partnerships with four technology companies, namely Lumen Technologies, ReaQta, SecureAge and TOFFS Technologies. The programme for the event at ITE College East is attached at Annex.

The establishment of the Lab marks ITE’s commitment to support the national agenda of ‘Growing a Robust Cyber Talent Pipeline’ under Singapore’s Cybersecurity Strategy 2021^[1] by working with partners to develop new training facilities for authentic learning and internship opportunities for students.

Cyber Security Lab to Help Develop Future Cyber Security Professionals

The Lab will serve as a training ground for developing the next generation of cyber security professionals, using training technologies supported by ITE’s new partners, such as Lumen Technologies’ Cyber Threat Intelligence data feeds, ReaQta’s Hive Forensics Detection and Response, as well as SecureAge’s Endpoint Security Operation Management.

The training facilities in the Lab will benefit students from the Higher Nitec in Cyber and Network Security and Work-Study Diploma in Cyber Security & Forensics programmes.

New Industry Partnerships to Enhance Cyber Security Training

 At the event, ITE separately signed a partnership agreement with four technology companies specialising in Cyber Security. These companies are (i) Lumen Technologies, (ii) ReaQta, (iii) SecureAge, and (iv) TOFFS Technologies.

 Under this agreement, the partnering companies will be collaborating with ITE to enhance cyber security training for students. This will include the provision of student and staff internship placements, as well as access to industry-leading cyber security training platforms and software.

 Students will receive training to hone their acumen in assessing real-world cyber security threats through Capture The Flag[2] programme on EC-Council’s CyberQ Cyber Range platform.

 In addition, ITE collaborated with the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA) to offer an apprenticeship programme to train students from the Higher Nitec in Cyber & Network Security programme incorporating the use of Asset Based Cyber Defence (ABCD) Security-as-a Service (SaaS) technologies[3].
