Eleven Top Graduands Honoured at ITE Graduation Ceremony 2015

Graduand from pioneer batch of Direct Entry to Polytechnic Programme wins double awards.
At the ITE Graduation Ceremony on 12 June 2015, 630 ITE graduands, or 5% of the cohort, will be awarded Certificates of Merit (COM). Of these, 223 will be awarded Course Medals for topping their courses. They are among the 12,522 students graduating from ITE’s programmes this year.
ITE Graduation Ceremony 2015 will be officiated by Mr Heng Swee Keat, Minister for Education.
These top graduands have displayed determination and resilience, and through hard work and self-belief, have turned their dreams into reality.
Passion and Compassion
One outstanding graduate is Tan Kai Hao, Andrew, 19. A student from the pioneer batch of Direct Entry to Polytechnic Programme (DPP), Andrew is an outstanding double-award winner. At ITE, Andrew, competed in the WorldSkills Singapore 2014 and 10th ASEAN Skills Competition (ASC) in Hanoi, Vietnam, and won Gold Medals in Information Network Cabling at both competitions.
At ASC, he also clinched the ‘Best of Nation’ Award - an award given to the top scorer for each country. Andrew’s deep sense of compassion also drew him to participate actively in community work. For Andrew’s achievements in his studies and involvement in Co-Curricular Activities and community work, he will be receiving the prestigious Lee Kuan Yew Gold Medal and Institute of Engineers Singapore (IES) Engineering Award at the Ceremony.
Inspiring Leader
Ray Tan Guan Rui, 19, is another inspiring Lee Kuan Yew Gold Medallist. An outstanding leader, Ray warded off strong competition to win the Halogen Foundation’s 2014 National Young Leader Award. As the President of the Student Council, he took an active interest in each of his members and the activities the Council organised. To encourage students to participate in sports, he started a programme called ‘License to Play’, which successfully involved more than 600 students to be engaged actively in sports.
As a Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore Youth Aviation Ambassador, besides being a role model for other youths, he also organised aviation-related activities for them. Outside of Singapore, Ray was one of two Singaporeans who represented the nation at the Young South East Asian Leaders Initiative Conference. At the conference in Yangon, Myanmar, Ray lent his voice on issues such as the global environment, social crisis and volunteerism.
Cream of the Crop
Andrew and Ray are among the eleven ITE graduates who will be honoured with the presitigious Medals. The Lee Kuan Yew Gold Medal, Tay Eng Soon Gold Medal and Sng Yew Chong Gold Medal will be presented to deserving graduates from each ITE College. Two top graduands from the Continuing Education and Training (CET) Programme will receive the Singapore Labour Foundation Gold Medal, and the top engineering graduate will receive the IES Engineering Award.
