ITE Unveils New Security Operations Training Facility to Boost Security Operations Talent Development Pipeline
29 April 2026
The purpose-built training facility is a first among the Institutes of Higher Learning (IHL) to integrate the one-of-a-kind ICA Zone.
The Institute of Technical Education (ITE) has officially unveiled a new purpose-built, integrated training facility designed to allow close to 300 ITE Work-Study Diploma (WSDip) in Security Operations trainees to bridge classroom learning with the realities of security operations annually. The launch was officiated by Assoc Prof Dr Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs and Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Home Affairs, at ITE College Central today.
Bridging Classroom Learning with Experiential Training
Created in close collaboration with industry partners, the new Security Operations Training Command (SOTC) offers trainees the opportunity to experience classroom learning and undergo technology-enabled, realistic security operation scenario training to hone skills related to situational awareness, decision-making, execution of action plans, communication and post-operation reflection – a 360-degree learning continuum in one dedicated facility.
Spanning approximately 353 square metres, the SOTC houses zones replicating real operational contexts and workflows in the security industry. These include the:

· ICA Zone – an interactive exhibition and experiential training space through a partnership between ITE and the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) that gives trainees first-hand exposure to frontline border security operations through mock-up automated clearance gates, an X-ray scanning machine, a vehicular search area, galleries on prohibited and controlled goods, as well as touch-screen quiz stations to gauge one’s learning. ITE is the only IHL which houses such a training zone.

· Command Centre – a simulated operations hub where trainees are trained to think and operate like security controllers. Trainees develop their situational awareness and decision-making under pressure through the use of integrated features such as live information dashboards, alarm monitoring, smart building systems, GPS tracking and virtual patrols. Scenario-based incidents are also introduced, and trainees learn to assess risks, coordinate responses, and apply intelligence-driven, preventive security strategies to them.

· Mixed Reality & Artificial Intelligence (MR/AI) Zone – an immersive zone that simulates various complex, high-pressure security situations such as unruly crowd behaviour and crime scenes, where trainees can sharpen their analytical thinking, composure and effectiveness of response.

· Preparedness Zone – a zone where post-operation reflections and feedback, debrief sessions and performance analyses are conducted and a space to recap learning outcomes.

· Interview Room - a training space where trainees engage in role‑play and simulated security interactions. Through hands‑on scenarios, they practise rapport building, structured questioning, and active listening while managing difficult or emotionally charged situations. The focus is on adapting communication strategies, de‑escalating tension, and conducting professional, outcome‑focused interviews.
The SOTC will contribute to Singapore’s broader security ecosystem by strengthening the pipeline of trained security professionals. Through a focus on instilling preparedness, professionalism and adaptability, it ensures that trainees are better equipped to operate in an increasingly complex and interconnected security environment.
Mr Peter Lam, Chief Executive Officer of ITE, said, “The Singapore security landscape is evolving rapidly, with heightened security measures at checkpoints and enhanced islandwide monitoring to safeguard national security. Roles and capabilities must keep pace with these changing demands. By collaborating with industry partners to provide an integrated, realistic training environment, such as the SOTC to reinforce classroom learning, we are equipping our trainees with the necessary skillsets to excel in modern security operations and contribute meaningfully to this industry."
