28 November 2025
Partnership boosts preventive health, digital skills and career pathways of healthcare professionals and students
NHG Health and the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to advance preventive health, exercise science, active living, and digital AI health. This collaboration will provide ITE students and NHG Health employees with valuable training and specialisation opportunities, fostering stronger career pathways and professional development.
Specifically, this five-year collaboration will increase internships and Work-Study Diploma (WSDip) placements for ITE students in healthcare. Over 500 students from programmes such as WSDip in Patient Management & Services, Technical Diploma in Health & Exercise Coaching, Higher Nitec in Customer Experience, and Higher Nitec in Sport Management, will gain practical experience in healthcare and community settings. This initiative supports Singapore’s Healthier SG and Age Well SG initiatives, preparing students for roles such as Patient Services Associates (PSA) with enhanced clinical functions, Health Coaches, Wellness and Care Coordinators, and digital health specialists.
Additionally, the partnership will focus on enhancing the skillsets of NHG Health’s employees in digital literacy, AI technology and patient experience. The two organisations will together expand PSA job functions and integrate digital health capabilities, enhancing patient experience and service excellence.
The partnership will strengthen Singapore’s healthcare workforce, enhance frontline capabilities, and drive innovation in community-based care.
The MOU signing was witnessed by Mr Tan Kiat How, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Health, and Ministry of Digital Development and Information, as Guest-of-Honour at the “Think Health 2025” seminar jointly organised by ITE and NHG Health, themed “Empowering Youths, Transforming Health”. The seminar featured dialogues with healthcare leaders and booths co-presented with healthcare partners. (See Annex for details on the event.)
Professor Chua Hong Choon, Executive President, NHG College said, “Our patients and residents expect clinically sound, high-quality care that is digital-ready and personalised. This MOU with ITE underscores our commitment to equip our workforce with the skills and mindset to meet these expectations and deliver exceptional patient experiences. It will also support our employees’ career aspirations and strengthen the foundation for healthier communities.”
Professor Chua is also the Chief Executive Officer of NHG Health’s Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH) and Yishun Community Hospital (YCH).
Ms Low Khah Gek, CEO of ITE, said, “The demand for community-based and digitally-enabled care is expected to grow as Singapore’s population ages rapidly. This collaboration will deepen our students’ learning experience and better prepare them for expanded roles in patient services, community care and digital health. We are also happy to support NHG Health in enhancing the digital literacy and AI capabilities of its workforce. Together, we can build a strong pipeline of healthcare talent who can support Singaporeans to age well and live well.”
Workforce of the Future
This MOU aims to enhance collaboration in developing healthcare professionals. Key initiatives include:
Support and strengthen NHG Health staff’s professional development through training in digital literacy, AI applications, and other emerging technologies to enhance patient engagement and service excellence.
Provide learning and development opportunities for ITE students and graduates through internships, industry immersion, and WSDip placements. WSDip opportunities may be offered to NHG staff as part of their career progression.
Facilitate authentic learning experiences through joint industry projects and research in patient experience, exercise science, and preventive health.
Promote Healthier SG and Age Well SG initiatives through community outreach, service-learning, and experiential programmes.

In partnership with the Silver Generation Office (SGO), the outreach arm of the Agency for Integrated Care, the students collaborated with Active Ageing Centres (AACs) to engage seniors living in the vicinity and facilitated health and exercise related programmes tailored to the needs of each AAC. Through this initiative students were able to foster meaningful connections with seniors and promote active ageing.
