GCE O-level school leavers who are aiming for a career in data science can look forward to getting a head start with the Institute of Technical Education’s (ITE) latest course offering. The Higher Nitec in Data Engineering course, which will take in its first batch of students in April 2021, will equip students with skills in data extraction, transformation, and loading for insights and analytics.
Industry Endorsement
In Singapore’s move towards a digital economy, data has become the commodity that fuels digital innovation. However, turning huge data collections into actionable insight remains a massive task. Given this, the demand for Info-comm Technology professionals in data analytics-related work is projected to grow over the next few years. There is thus a need to train a group of Associate Data Engineers to assist Data Analysts in various aspects of their work functions.
Industry players welcome the introduction of the new Higher Nitec in Data Engineering course, citing challenges in finding the right skillsets and talents in this emerging area. Mr Nick Lim, General Manager, Asia Pacific & Japan, TIBCO, said, “This course will enhance students’ data capabilities to address critical workforce shortages in data engineering, in addition to creating a pool of talented and skilled graduates who will, in turn, empower and transform the information technology industry and impact other businesses. TIBCO is excited to work with ITE, providing the technology and technical expertise to elevate the advanced analytics skills of students and address the data skills gap in Singapore. Students in this course benefit from cutting-edge technology and innovative solutions provided by TIBCO. By learning to analyse complex data sets and draw predictive insights, students will be able to support organisations in making faster, smarter decisions.”
More information on the new Higher Nitec in Data Engineering course to be offered in April 2021 can be found in Annex A. Details on full-time Higher Nitec courses in April 2021 for GCE O-Level holders and their entry requirements can be found in Annex B.
