Press Release - ITE Signs MOU with OutSystems to Launch New Solutioning Centre, Harnessing the Power of Low-Code Software Development

Singapore, 25 March 2022 – OutSystems, a global leader in modern application development, today announced a partnership with the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) to launch a new Solutioning Centre at ITE College East. The Centre will leverage the OutSystems low-code platform to empower and train ITE students to build agile applications and stay future-ready for the new age of application development. The signing of this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was attended by Mr Tan Kiat How, Minister of State, Ministry of Communications and Information & Ministry of National Development. 

As part of the MOU, OutSystems will focus on training ITE students and ITE lecturers in lowcode software development. All learners will be equipped with the skills to create, deploy, manage and enhance innovative applications. The courses are targeted at addressing  shortages in digital talent by training the future generation of workers through the following:

1. Boost Manpower Capability by Enhancing Teaching and Learning

OutSystems will provide ITE students with comprehensive training, certifications and learning materials to support the development of new applications, enabling students to quickly build applications with modern user interfaces, integrations and data. Utilising OutSystems’ lowcode platform education license, the curriculum will cover areas such as Agile Web Development and Native Mobile Applications, to further enhance employability, resilience and future readiness of ITE students. The education programme will be complemented by the establishment of a Solutioning Centre, where students will be offered the chance to work on projects and develop prototypes of their ideas with partners and customers of both OutSystems and ITE. Since the beginning of the year, ITE students and staff have worked with OutSystems to develop three applications for the healthcare domain. They include predicting a user’s heart disease risk using AI and IoT-device integrated dashboard for home recovery patients. 

2. Provide Opportunities to Solve Real-world Problems

OutSystems will work with partners and customers to offer internship opportunities for students across a wide range of sectors. The company will also seek to organise competitions and events, like hackathons, for ITE students to collaboratively identify and develop innovative solutions for real-world business problems, built and delivered on the OutSystems platform. The event also saw the launch of the Coding for All Competition, which is open to ITE students across all courses to participate using OutSystems platform.

OutSystems will also support ITE’s plans to drive digital education amongst students and pique their interest in the technology sector.

Each year, about 1000 ITE students will have the opportunity to be exposed to the OutSystems Platform. The Solutioning Centre will be used as a training ground for students to explore their passion in app building using the platform.”
