ignITE Skills Challenge 2025: Inspiring the Next Generation of Innovators

ITE’s IgnITE Skills Challenge 2025 has attracted the participation of 1,767 secondary school students, the highest number of sign-ups for the Challenge in the past five years. Into its ninth edition, this annual national-level skills competition is designed specifically for secondary students. It introduces students to technical skills and fosters a deeper understanding of courses offered by ITE.

Following the successful completion of the preliminary rounds from 14 to 16 April, the Finals took place today, at ITE College Central, where students showcased their skills by competing across 16 Skills Challenges. Of these Skills Challenges, ITE introduced these six new Skills Challenges that focused on sustainability and future work technologies:

• BreadCycle Challenge: Innovate and Repurpose

• Sustainable Shorts

• The Business Enterprise Challenge

• The Eco-Racers: Generative Design for Sustainable Transportation

• Try Hack Us

• Ultimate Robotic Claw

As a national skills competition dedicated to secondary students, the ignITE Skills Challenge encourages participants to explore their potential through engaging and enjoyable challenges. This year, the Skills Challenges were categorised into three themes that align with Singapore’s future development plans: Smarter Innovations, Greener Future and Bolder Dreamers. Details of the Skills Challenges can be found in the Annex.

Learning New Skills for Success

To prepare students for the Skills Challenges, participating students formed teams of three and either attended training workshops organised by ITE or enrolled in the ITE Applied Learning Module (ApLM@ITE) related to the Skills Challenge prior to the competition. The top three teams in each Skills Challenge received trophies and medals, while the school that excelled in the most challenges was awarded the prestigious Champion Trophy.
