Decarbonisation

1. Decarbonisation is a hot topic at any industry, economic, and social forum. When I attend an ITM meeting, decarbonisation issues emerge in the form of carbon tax, biofuels, electrification, hydrogen fuel, carbon capture and storage. When I attend youth engagement sessions, decarbonisation also ranks high on the youths’ minds as they are concerned with global warming and rising sea levels impacting their future. 

2. At ITE, we are keen that our staff and students keep abreast of developments in the industry on decarbonisation strategies. We want to include new concepts into the curriculum and acquaint our students with new work processes and industry standards arising from sustainability and decarbonisation. Our courses in Urban Greenery and Landscape Management include mangrove carbon sequestration. Courses in Built Environment include green energy audit and net zero energy standards. For courses in the engineering sector, we are keen to include industries’ decarbonisation strategies and new sustainability standards.

Industry Trends and Innovations

3. There is much for academic staff and our students to learn from the industry. This morning, we are pleased that five illustrious industry practitioners will be speaking on a wide range of topics related to the latest trends and innovations in sustainability, decarbonisation, economic resilience, connectivity and intelligent automation. We are privileged to have MOS Low Yen Ling as our Guest-of-Honour to emphasise the importance of decarbonisation efforts by all industries, including the Marine and Offshore industry.  

Decarbonisation in Robotics and Automation 

4. Today, ITE is also pleased to sign an MOU with ABB Pte Ltd to collaborate in the field of Decarbonisation in Robotics and Automation. We will work on decarbonisation projects in robotics operations and automation system and showcasing these to industry. We will also jointly develop the means for energy monitoring and optimisation of an existing industrial robot in the Automation Hub at ITE College Central. This will enable us to include the teaching of decarbonisation and energy optimisation concepts to our students. For the public and adult learners, ITE and ABB will also jointly develop and offer CET courses in three tiers: i) Introduction to Industrial Robots; ii) Practical Robotics; iii) Capstone Project at ABB.
