This course provides participants with a comprehensive introduction to pet grooming, focusing on dog welfare, breed-specific care and practical grooming skills. Students will learn the fundamental needs of animals, safe handling techniques, and how to select and use grooming tools effectively, emphasising safety, health, hygiene and ethical practices aligned with the Code of Animal Welfare.

• Demonstrate different scissoring techniques and apply them to cut straight lines and rounded shapes safely and accurately.

• Demonstrate the ability to perform a full basic grooming procedure on a dog, encompassing bathing, drying, brushing, scissoring, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and sanitary clipping to ensure the dog’s health and comfort.

• Understand and apply the key principles of the Code of Animal Welfare (Pet Industry) to ensure ethical, responsible, and humane practices in dog grooming.

Entry requirements

The course is designed for learners who have limited or no prior knowledge in the subject area and covers basic knowledge and application. Participants should however be proficient in English.
