This online based course teaches skills to differentiate between types of therapeutic gardens, identify plant characteristics that contribute to therapeutic benefits, recognize key design principles that make gardens therapeutic, site assessment.

Course duration: 7 hours

  • A framework for understanding healing gardens

  • Characteristics of a therapeutic garden

  • Specific users and their needs - older adults, adults with dementia, others (e.g., users with special needs)

  • Other considerations – programming, design team & stakeholders

  • Design charrette
