Work-Study Diploma in Paramedicine

Course duration: 30 months

Prerequisite

• Able to work well with others in a team environment

• Able to work long hours under time constraints

• Possess physical mobility, mental agility and the ability to react quickly

• Possess attentiveness to safety, dealing with non-routine situations

• Able to show empathy, interaction with strangers

• Possess fine and gross psychomotor skills, sensor (Visual, hearing) ability, communication skills

Job role

A paramedic is a healthcare provider who leads a team to provide patient care in the pre-hospital settings.  

The paramedic works under the direction and supervision of a physician who provides the clinical guidelines which underscores the scope that the paramedics can practice under his charge. 

The work he/she performs includes the following: 

• Maintain operational readiness

• Perform clinical assessment for different age groups (young, adult, geriatric)

• Manage trauma situations

• Manage medical conditions

• Manage special situations

• Perform administrative duties

• Engage in work improvement

• Supervise, train and mentor emergency medical technician and trainees

• Engage in professional learning and development

Work-Study Training pattern

Block Release - Alternating between blocks of daily classroom lessons at ITE and periods of On-the-Job Training at the workplace.

Entry requirements

Applicants must meet the following minimum entry requirements:

1. ITE graduates from any one of the following courses + pass company screening & interview;

   • Nitec with GPA ≥ 2:

     • Applied Food Science

     • Chemical Process Technology

     • Community Care and Social Services

     • Nursing

     • Opticianry

   • Higher Nitec:

     • Applied Food Science

     • Bio-Chemical Technology

     • Biotechnology

     • Chemical Process Technology

     • Chemical Technology

     • Community Care and Social Services

     • Nursing

     • Opticianry

     • Paramedicine & Emergency Care

OR

2. In-service employees⁺ :

   • Sponsored full-time in-service employees performing a job role of Emergency Medical Technician

⁺In-service employee may be invited for an admission interview

Career opportunities

Graduates from WSDip in Paramedicine can expect to start a rewarding career in the pre-hospital emergency care sector as a Paramedic (Level III), with good remuneration package. Career advancement prospect will improve when graduates acquire experience and upgrade their skills and knowledge.
