Curious about the world’s fastest lifts or tallest escalators? Turn that curiosity into a career! Our Vertical Transportation Diploma equips you with the skills to design, maintain, and manage lift systems that move the world—safely and efficiently.

Course duration: 30 months

Do you know the fastest lift in the world travels at over 70km/h or where is the highest escalator? While we hope this essential services could move a little faster and highest, have you ever wondered what will happen if a lift or an escalator exceeds its design load or speed?

Work-Study Diploma in Vertical Transportation prepares you for a professional career in Lift & Escalator under Built Environment sector. You will be equipped with the skills, competencies and knowledge to perform high-level lift maintenance, servicing, inspections and fault diagnostics, as well as manage and supervise new lift installation or upgrading projects, in compliance with all relevant standards, regulations and codes of practice.

Prerequisite

This course is perfect for those who are eager to learn and work well in a team environment. Strong communication skills will help you effectively interact with clients and document your work. If you are good at troubleshooting, passionate about the machines and want to make a difference to serve the community, this diploma is your gateway to success.

Job role

As an Assistant Lift Engineer, Principal Specialist, or Supervisor, you will supervise/ manage a team to inspect and maintain lifts with Authorised Lift & Escalator Specialised Engineers and Inspectors. You will develop advanced skills in servicing and diagnosing lift/ escalator issues, ensuring everything meets Building Control Act, safety regulations, codes and standards. You will also oversee new lift installations, modernisation and upgrading projects.

Training pattern

Day Release - Trainees attend lessons at ITE for one day per week and spend the reminder of the work-week at the workplace for OJT.

What you'll learn

Advise client on lift upgrade
Troubleshoot lift fault and problem
Conduct investigation on lift incident
Perform contract management and administration
Supervise lift installation, inspection, testing and commissioning
Supervise technical workforce in accordance with contractual requirements and in compliance with relevant standards, regulations and codes of practices

Entry requirements

Applicants must meet the following minimum entry requirements:

ITE graduates from any one of the following courses + pass company screening & interview;
- Nitec with GPA ≥ 2:
  - All courses from School of Engineering
  - All courses from School of Electronics & Info-Comm Technology
  - Lift & Escalator Technology
- Higher Nitec:
  - All courses from School of Engineering
  - All courses from School of Electronics & Info-Comm Technology

In-service employees⁺ with:
- Equivalent qualifications such as Workplace Literacy & Numeracy (WPLN) Level 5 and above
- Relevant work experience
- Strong employer endorsement

⁺In-service employee may be invited for an admission interview

Note:

Applicants applying for this course must be free from colour appreciation deficiency. A score of 100% from the Colour Blindness Test taken here is mandatory for course admission.
