This course, developed in close collaboration with SMRT and major rail players, will provide you with the necessary training to qualify as Rapid Transit Technical Officer, well-versed in all the science and technology aspects of rail operations, train rolling stock, permanent way (tracks), mechanical and electrical systems, with a special emphasis on rail communications, signalling, fare and integrated supervisory control systems.

Entry Requirements

GCE 'O' level grades in English Language, Mathematics and 1 approved subject:

  • Grade 1-8 in English Language

Progression Opportunities

Higher Nitec in Rapid Transit Engineering graduates with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0 and above may apply for progression to the first year of a related diploma course at the Polytechnics. Higher Nitec in Rapid Transit Engineering graduates, with their breadth and depth of skills and knowledge in a wide range of rapid transit technologies and systems, would be able to find attractive employment opportunities with mass rapid transit operators (SMRT, SBS Transit), Land Transport Authority, Government planning agencies as well as companies dealing in high tech systems and equipment for the rail industry. Some of the job titles would include Rapid Transit Technical Officer in the areas of Trains, Rolling Stock, Permanent Way, Electrical Systems, Communications, Signaling and Supervisory Control.
