About ITE Centre for Music and the Arts (CeMTA)

ITE Centre for Music and the Arts (CeMTA) welcomes students from all three ITE Colleges to nurture their passion for music, drama and dance. Our mission is to empower our students with skills and values that will prepare them for their future careers, leveraging their artistic talents.

CeMTA plays a vital role in shaping our students’ character through our diverse arts and leadership programmes. Our five performance CCA groups – ITE Concert Band, ITE Modern Dance, ITE Show Choir, ITE That Acappella Group (TAG) and ITE Theatrical Ensemble – provide a platform for students to develop and shine.

Signature events produced by CeMTA include ITE Vocal Xchange, ITE Singer-Songwriters Showcase, ITE Dance Emblazon, the ITE Musical, Musica Fantasia, as well as Theatrical Ensemble’s presentations: Chapters, Seasons, Volumes and Episodes. CeMTA’s productions are opportunities to collaborate with our valued partners, including ITE courses and industry professionals.

CeMTA students are encouraged to play an active part in giving back to ITE and the community. Our student engagement programme, CeMTAConnect, fosters collaboration and friendships across the five CCA groups and three Colleges.

ITE Arts Platforms

The signature ITE events organised by CeMTA are holistic development programmes where students learn essential life skills through the Arts. The focus of the productions are on the learning journey rather than the outcome, giving the students the time and space to grow under the tutelage of industry professionals.

Other than performing arts talents, students from related courses and with relevant skills have the opportunity to work on their areas of expertise. Past collaborators include students from:

ITE Dance Emblazon

ITE Dance Emblazon is ITE’s annual combined dance concert. Inaugurated in 2013, it brings together more than 300 dance talents from all over ITE in five dance genres, including hip-hop, modern dance, b-boy, Malay Dance and K-pop dance.

Emblazon symbolises the igniting of ITE students’ passion for dance, and displays the capabilities of ITE talents in staging a professional dance performance. The objective of the programmes is to develop “Thinking Dancers”, where dancers are challenged not only to perform, but also to take ownership of various aspects of the production. This includes social media marketing, where students manage updates of the production on Instagram - @itedanceemblazon2024.

ITE Vocal XChange

ITE’s annual combined vocal concert brings together over 100 vocal talents from all over ITE, embodying the spirit of continuous learning and sharing, where students exchange their learning points and share their singing techniques with each other.

The ITE Vocal XChange aims to encourage a ground-up arts initiative, educating young arts talents not only through the performing experience, but also in technical production and arts management. The production and marketing teams comprise student leaders from various vocal and music groups from the ITE Colleges and CeMTA – ITE Show Choir, ITE That Acappella Group (T.A.G), College East Voices in Paradise, College East Dynamics, College Central’s Central Music Club and West Unplugged. ITE Art Show

Held every two years since 2012, the ITE Visual Arts Show has been offering a spectacle of diverse artistic works created by ITE students and staff. More than 300 pieces of art works by students and staff from all three ITE Colleges and community groups are displayed.

The exhibits go beyond the gallery - the art creations spill off the canvases and are displayed throughout the campus. These include Artworks from community arts projects, coursework as well as individual contributions. The bi-annual Art Show rotates among the ITE College.

ITE Musical

The ITE Musical had its humble beginnings more than 10 years ago, with the first production of Midsummer’s Night Dream staged at the Kallang Theatre. It produced one of Singapore’s most prolific theatre actresses, Siti Khalijah Zainal, who was then an ITE student.

Many more Broadway and West End musical adaptations followed – Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat (2007), Grease (2009), West Side Story (2011) and Fame (2013). In 2015, an original musical, Becoming Home, was created to commemorate SG50, including collaborations with community members of different age groups. In 2017, CeMTA produced Letters to ITE - another original musical - to celebrate ITE’s 25^th Anniversary. This production was the biggest so far, involving 200 talented student singers, musicians, dancers and actors from across the ITE Colleges.

The CCAs managed by ITE CeMTA consist student members from all colleges, and represent whole of ITE. Currently, the trainings are held at ITE College Central.
