General Information
1. What is the Work-Study Diploma programme (WSDip) about?
The WSDip programme is designed to give fresh graduates from Institute of Technical Education (ITE) a head-start in careers related to their discipline of study. It provides them with more opportunities, after graduation, to build on the skills and knowledge they acquired in school and better supports their transition into the workforce.
2. What is the difference between ITE’s WSDip and Polytechnics' Work-Study Certificate Leading to a Diploma?
ITE WSDip:
ITE’s WSDip is an undisrupted learning journey from start to end. WSDip trainees will obtain a nationally recognised Diploma at the end of the 2.5-year programme (The WSDip in Nursing is 3 years).
Work-Study Certificate (WSCert):
The part-time WSCert programme offered by polytechnics, will not lead directly to a part-time Diploma.
During the 12 to 18 months WSCert programme, participants who complete the required 3 Modular Certificates will attain a Work-Study Certificate.
Upon completion of the WSCert programme, participants will have to complete 2 more Modular Certificates on their own before obtaining a Part-Time Diploma.

Partner Companies
10. Who are the partner companies under WSDip and how are they selected?
These companies are selected based on their ability and commitment to providing quality workplace training and meaningful career development opportunities for WSDip trainees. Partners come from various sectors and include MNCs, SMEs, Voluntary Welfare Organisations and Statutory Boards.
11. Can I choose my preferred company to work in?
Yes. The list of participating companies for each course will be made available in the WSDip Connect (WSDC) portal during WSDip intake exercises. You can apply for your preferred jobs and submit your resume through the portal.
Companies will contact you directly if you have been shortlisted, and you will need to pass company interview(s) and be hired as a full-time employee before you can be enrolled into the WSDip programme.

14. What happens if I get terminated by the company or resign from the company?
Trainees who get terminated or resign will need to follow the exit requirements agreed with their companies, including serving of notice period and payment of liquidated damages (if any).
ITE is to be kept informed to process programme attrition for trainees accordingly.
If the trainees had received the SSG Work-Study Diploma sign-on incentive from ITE, they would have to return the incentive to ITE within one month from the point of termination or resignation.
15. Am I able to change to another company during the course? What would be the penalty, if there is one?
In the event that the company ceases its business operations, restructures or provides valid reasons to release trainees, ITE will facilitate the transfer of affected trainees to other employers, subject to acceptance by these employers.
ITE however, will not accede to trainees’ requests for transfers if reasons are purely personal, such as facing challenges in travelling between the workplace and home, or misconduct of trainees, such as failure to fulfil the conditions of employment in the contract of service, including dishonesty, immoral conduct at work, and insubordination.
Fees & Payment
16. Am I required to pay any programme fees?
WSDip trainees will not be required to pay any programme fees. The course fees for the programme will be borne by the employers.
Sign-On Incentive & ITE Progression Award
17. What is the ITE Progression Award about? Who is eligible for it?
The ITE Progression Award* (IPA) supports ITE graduates to upskill to a diploma earlier in their careers, to secure more progression prospects in their chosen professions.
The IPA which consists of a $10,000 top-up into the WSDip graduate’s CPF Ordinary Account helps with the financial costs of obtaining a diploma and boosts ITE graduates’ savings for longer-term goals, such as home ownership or retirement.
*$5,000 top-up into the Post-Secondary Education Account does not apply as eligible WSDip trainees will already receive the $5,000 sign-on incentive from SkillsFuture Singapore.
To be eligible for the ITE Progression Award, one must be a Singaporean ITE graduate, aged 30 and below, who pursues a diploma qualification issued by an MOE-funded institution from 2024.
18. When will I receive the SkillsFuture Singapore WSDip sign-on incentive?
The $5,000 incentive will be given in two parts – the first tranche of $2,500 will be disbursed to eligible trainees six months after course commencement. The second tranche, also $2,500, will be given after trainees have successfully graduated from the programme with a diploma.
19. Who is eligible for the sign-on incentive?
Only fresh graduates who are Singapore Citizens and from relevant feeder courses will be eligible for the sign-on incentive.
Fresh graduates are defined as those individuals who have graduated or ORD within 36 months from ITE (based on graduation date as stated on the Nitec / Higher Nitec certificates).
Applicants from non-relevant courses will not be eligible for the SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) sign-on incentive, even if they are within 36 months of graduation or completion of National Service (NS).
20. Will I have to return the sign-on incentive if I am asked to leave, or if my employment has been terminated by the employer?
Yes. Trainees who are asked to leave or have their employment terminated by the employer, will be required to return the sign-on incentive that was disbursed to them within one month from the point of termination or resignation.
Assessment
21. How will I be assessed for the WSDip? Will I have exams?
WSDip trainees will be assessed on their on-the job training (OJT) and off-the-job training performance. The off-the-job component may include in-course assessments and end-of-module written examinations. OJT competencies are assessed by company trainers throughout the programme.
22. What happens if I fail an off-the-job training module?
Trainees who have failed a module will have to take a supplementary examination within three months. If trainees fail the supplementary examination, they must seek permission from the sponsoring company to repeat the module and be released for off-the-job lessons for the repeat modules.
Fees for repeat module will be borne by the WSDip trainee - their sponsoring company is not obliged to pay for repeat module fees.
Subject to terms and conditions, WSDip trainees will be assessed for repeat fees subsidies. Trainees who are unable to pay the relevant fees will not be able to continue with the WSDip programme.
