Admission process for part-time Nitec and ITE Skills Certificate (ISC) courses

Eligibility

You are eligible to be considered for admission to a course if you:

• Are at least 18 years of age as at 1 January of intake year.

• Are physically, medically, and mentally fit to pursue the course. (Students who are unfit, may be withdrawn from the course or considered for other suitable courses.)

• Are free from colour appreciation deficiency or passed an admission interview (and admission test, e.g. drawing test) where applicable.

• Meet the minimum entry requirements (MER) for the course i.e. completion of GCE ‘N’, or relevant ISC qualifications for Nitec course, and completion of primary education for ISC course. (Applicants for Nitec course who do not meet the MER may take an Entrance Test to assess suitability for the course.)

Course application

New applicants are encouraged to apply online via the STEP Portal during the application period.

Applicants should upload copies of the following documents with their application, where applicable:

• Educational Certificate

• Skills Certificate

• Entrance Test Result Slip

ITE’s refund policy will apply for withdrawals as a result of the verification, including for the following scenarios:

• Applicants found to have falsely/incorrectly declared any part of their qualifications; or

• Applicants who do not meet the course entry requirements; or

• Applicants who do not produce their documents for verification by the stipulated periods.

Applicants are advised to upload all required documents in STEP for verification by the stipulated deadlines, before course commencement. Term commencement is indicated in the academic calendar page.

Module exemption

You may apply for exemption from one or more modules in a course of study based on your relevant prior learning acquired from ITE or other institutions.

Exemption based on non-ITE certifications

The number of modules to be granted exemption based on relevant prior learning acquired from other recognised institutions shall not exceed 50% of the total credits required for certification of the course. For example, for a course that requires 72 credits for certification, the maximum module exemption(s) will not exceed 36 credits. For WSQ holders, the number of module exemption(s) granted shall not exceed 75% of the total credits required for certification of the course.

Evaluation criteria

You will need to produce evidence of your prior learning. Applications will be evaluated based on:

• Whether the certified learning acquired is still relevant and current;

• Relevant work experience acquired from local companies, if any; and

• A one-off practical test to be taken by applicant, if deemed necessary at the discretion of ITE.

How to apply?

Students may apply for module exemption by raising an online request through the Student Portal. This can be done in 2 ways:

• Submit a request for module exemption after first applying for the module; or

• Submit a request for module exemption directly by selecting the full qualification course. Full qualification courses may be identified by the course code beginning with ITE-FQ-xxxxx and the full qualification course title.

The following supporting documents will be needed during the online application:

• Certified true copies of relevant certificates. Certificates issued by foreign institutions must be endorsed by the relevant embassies;

• Detailed results;

• Relevant syllabus(es) with breakdown of curriculum duration for theory lessons and practical training;

• Type and mode of assessment of the certified learning;

• Pre-requisite(s) for the certified learning, if any; and

• Relevant local work experience, if any, and endorsed by employer(s).

All supporting documents must be in English. Documents in other languages will not be considered in the evaluation.

Where required in the evaluation process, you may have to:

• Attend an interview; and/or

• Take a practical test of 1 to 2-hour duration for a module applied.

Failure to turn up for the interview or the practical test, which will be conducted during office hours, will render the application void and invalid.

Notification of results

You will be notified of the outcome of your application via an email notification.

Exemption/module transfer based on ITE certifications

Students who completed some modules from their previous ITE course under other modes of ITE training (Full-time or Traineeship), may apply to continue their outstanding modules in a related part-time course. To qualify, applicants must be at least 18 years old, and have accumulated at least one year of work experience. They must complete the course within a 6-year time frame from the date of first examination taken.
