ITE is committed to the holistic development of our students. As part of this commitment, we work at instilling integrity, encouraging right decision-making, and fostering self-accountability among students. Being a responsible member of ITE community, we believe that it is our personal responsibility to act in accordance with all institutional rules and policies.

The ITE Student Code of Conduct sets out the standards of conduct expected of our students. It is to create a safe, harmonious and enjoyable learning experience in ITE where every student can grow and develop, in an inclusive environment within and outside of the campus, to uphold the good reputation of ITE at all times. The ITE Student Code of Conduct is binding on all students/trainees and all students/trainees are required to comply with it at all times.

Attire

Full-time students must be properly attired in ITE uniform or prescribed attire while in College during term time and at all ITE-organised activities, events or functions, including co-curricular activities.
All Traineeship, Work-Study Diploma students, and CET students attending day classes at ITE must respect the decorum of ITE, and be properly and decently attired.
Students should carry with them their student cards for identification while in campus.
Modification to the uniform or prescribed attire and improper dressing (eg. wearing caps or other non-prescribed headgear, slippers, provocative clothing) are prohibited.
Male students must be clean-shaven and not sport long hair or wear ear rings / ear studs in the College.
Students should not sport hair in outrageous colours (for example blue, green, purple, red, ash etc.).
Students should not display any tattoos outwardly. All tattoos must be covered up appropriately.
Students attending workshops/laboratories must wear proper attire and safety shoes/footwear.

Attendance

Students are required to attend and be punctual for all scheduled lessons, workshops or laboratory sessions and official ITE and College functions.
Students who are absent from lessons or official functions must produce a medical certificate or obtain official leave approval.

Behaviour

Students should be thoughtful towards others, and show respect for the culture, language, race and religion of fellow students, staff and members of the community, both within and outside of ITE.
Students should be respectful and courteous in their behaviour towards lecturers, other ITE staff, including company supervising staff for Traineeship, Work-Study Diploma and internship.
Students should not commit acts of disturbance within or outside of ITE’s premises.
Students should refrain from bullying or any behaviour that is harmful, intimidating, humiliating, immoral or indecent towards others. This also applies to all hazing activities, even where the other person has expressed willingness to participate in the activities.
Students should avoid acts which will bring disrepute to themselves and ITE, or are harmful towards good order and discipline in the Colleges.
Students should comply with and observe any such rules and regulations as may be made from time to time by the College.
Students should not commit criminal offences punishable by law.

Sexual misconduct

Sexual misconduct (including but not limited to sexual assault, outrage of modesty, voyeuristic acts) will not be tolerated.
Students should not engage in any act of sexual misconduct whether in the form of an action, or words, verbal or in writing, including on any non-digital or digital media.
Students should not display or be in possession of any pornographic materials, which includes sexually explicit images on clothing, pictures screen savers, videos, posters or objects.
Students must also refrain from sending or forwarding sexually explicit e-mails, videos, notes or messages through SMS / WhatsApp / other social media.

Littering

Students should not litter, and keep the campus clean at all times. Trash should be disposed of into the disposal bins.
Students should not consume drink or eat in the class/ laboratory/ workshop/ library.
Students should return all utensils to the respective receptacles provided within the cafeteria.

College property

Students should not damage, vandalise, steal or lose any ITE property.
Any loss or damage to property belonging to the College must be reported immediately.
Students are to refrain from removing/moving any property that belongs to the College unless authorised.
Students are to return any items found in the College premises to the Customer & Visitor Centre.

Social media

Students are to act responsibly when using and communicating through social media platforms, social networking sites, video and photo-sharing sites.
Students are expected to conduct themselves in an objective and respectful manner in the cyber and digital space.
Students are expected to be mindful of the contents that they post in public domains and ensure that their messages are not offensive, racist, vulgar and/or threatening.
Harassment and cyberbullying on social media targeting at an individual with malicious insults or intents are strictly prohibited.

Smoking and Vaping

Students should not smoke or be in possession of cigarettes / any tobacco products while in ITE premises as they are gazetted as NON SMOKING areas.
Students must not vape or purchase/ possess, distribute, sell, import e-vaporisers (including those containing etomidate) as vaping is illegal in Singapore.
Students wearing the ITE uniform or prescribed attire are prohibited from smoking within or outside of ITE’s premises.

Academic integrity

ITE does not tolerate any form of academic dishonesty. Academic dishonesty includes, but is not limited to, cheating, plagiarism, forgery and violation of intellectual property and copyright laws.
Students who are found cheating during examinations will be disciplined according to the ITE Examination Rules & Regulations.
Plagiarism occurs when you copy a piece of work or AI-generated output and pass it off as your own without acknowledgement of the source of information.
Forging or possession of forged official documents is a serious offence with severe consequences.
Unauthorised use or illegal copying of copyright materials including printed and/or non-printed matters and computer software or the disclosure of computer passwords to others is a serious offence.

Gambling

Students must not engage in any form of gambling (including online gambling or e-gambling) in ITE’s premises.
Any form of card games, using poker or any other cards associated with gambling is prohibited in ITE’s premises.

Alcohol, drugs and inhalant abuse

Students must not be in possession and / or engage in consumption of alcoholic drinks or intoxicating substances on campus.
Drugs are illegal in Singapore. Students must not be in possession, or engage in consumption, trafficking or manufacturing of drugs.
Students must not engage in inhalant abuse.

Fighting, assault or possession of dangerous weapons

Students must not be involved in fighting, assault or be in possession of dangerous weapons.

Global education

Students participating in Overseas Exposure Programme (OEP) are deemed as ambassadors of ITE and Singapore, and must uphold the highest standards of conduct and behaviour at all times.

Country’s law and culture

Each country has their own unique customs and laws. When overseas, students should:

Be aware of and comply with the laws of the host country.
Be respectful, sensitive and open-minded towards local cultures and norms.
Abide by the dress and cultural codes of the host country.
Be sensitive to gender and cultural differences, languages, political affinities and religious beliefs.
Refrain from participating in any illegal activity.

Should students be unclear of the customs and cultures of the land, they should consult their lecturers or lectures/leaders from the host country.

E-vaporisers (including those containing etomidate) and Vaping are illegal in Singapore. Students caught at land, air or sea checkpoints in possession of e-vaporisers, will be liable for the penalty imposed for importation of e-vaporisers.

Conduct when overseas

For your own well-being and personal safety when overseas, students should not:

Purchase, possess or consume any form of drugs even if it is legal in the host country.
Purchase or possess dangerous weapons and firearms even if it is legal in the host country.
Purchase, use, possess or consume any cannabis-infused food products, vaping paraphernalia (eg., e-vaporisers), or purchase weapon-like items during overseas trips. Bringing such contraband items back to Singapore from overseas carries potentially heavier penalties, if caught.
Share a room between male and female students.
Operate or rent any form of motorised vehicle.
Visit adult entertainment establishments such as bars, pubs, clubs, KTV, massage parlours, etc.
Engage in high-risk/dangerous activities (eg. sky-diving, shooting range, cave diving, white-water rafting, etc).
Cross over international borders unless it is part of the official programme.
Consume alcohol.
Engage in inappropriate behaviour, such as lewdness, drunkenness, intimidation, threats, violence, fighting and immoral/indecent activities.

Disciplinary matters

If a student is aware of another student acting in violation of the ITE Student Code of Conduct, the student is expected to report the suspected misconduct to his or her academic school staff (Lecturers, Class Advisor, Managers, Section Heads, Student Guidance Officers) as soon as possible.

Students who fail to abide by the Code of Conduct or commit disciplinary offences are liable to disciplinary actions by Colleges. Students who do not meet the required attendance rate may be debarred from taking the examinations. Where ITE property is damaged or lost, students may be required to compensate ITE for the loss or damage where appropriate. Students involved in criminal offences / illegal activities will also be reported to the Police.

All ITE staff are empowered to enforce discipline on campus. The School management/School Discipline Committee has the authority to take disciplinary action and if necessary, refer offenders to the College Disciplinary Committee (CDC).

For students who have committed serious disciplinary offences, the CDC may impose one or more of the following penalties:

Manual and/or course-related work;
Verbal and/or written warnings;
Temporary suspension from classes;
Dismissal from College;
Withdrawal of privileges; and
Fine and/ or Community Service Order (CSO)

Students who are dismissed or suspended for more than one week may seek an appeal within 7 days. An independent Appeals Review Panel/ Appeals Committee will be convened to review the appeal received. The decision by the Appeals Review Panel/ Appeals Committee, after reviewing the case, shall be final. Where a student has been convicted of a criminal offence or has been proven to have misconducted himself or has committed acts outside the institute premises that will or are likely to bring disrepute to the ITE, the CDC may consider the investigation report of the police and/or such other law enforcement authority and/or record of the proceedings of the court, and take any necessary actions as it deems fit, including temporary suspension or dismissal of the student.

Conclusion

The ITE Student Code of Conduct, which is not meant to be exhaustive in scope, will help to remind students of the standards set to foster a College environment which everyone can be proud of. The students’ commitment to these standards contributes to the good image of ITE and a pleasant environment for everyone.
