Are you fascinated by how Digitization and Emerging Technologies such as Building Information Modelling (BIM) software, DfMA and 3D Printing have revolutionised the way buildings will be designed, produced and constructed?

Digitization has revolutionized the way our buildings and infrastructure being designed and constructed.

Ride on this digital wave as you will learn to use Building Information Modelling (BIM) to design and create 3D models for buildings, steel structures, and civil engineering works. You will also be producing structural and civil engineering drawings according to specifications and the relevant Codes of Practice.

You'll emerge as a specialist in BIM modelling or CAD designing, among many exciting careers that await you!

What you'll learn

  • Prepare civil and structural layout plans
  • Prepare civil and structural components’ schedule and details such as beams, slabs, columns, foundation, roads, drainage and sewerage
  • Prepare civil and structural detailed drawings
  • Prepare shop drawings for construction
  • Liaise with engineers to resolve discrepancies and site problems

Entry Requirements

GCE 'O' level grades in English Language, Mathematics and 1 approved subject:

  • Grade 1-8 in English Language
  • Grade 1-7 in Mathematics (Elementary/Additional)
  • Grade 1-8 in an approved subject: [Biology / Biotechnology / Chemistry / Combined Science / Computing / Computer Studies / Design & Technology / Electronics / Fundamentals of Electronics / Human & Social Biology / Integrated Science / Physics / Engineering Science / Science (Chemistry, Biology) / Science (Physics, Biology) / Science (Physics, Chemistry) / Physical Science / Science (Physics, Biology, Chemistry)]


GCE ‘N(A)’ level passes in English Language, Mathematics and 3 other subjects:

  • Grade 1-4 in English Language
  • Grade 1-4 in Mathematics
  • Grade 1-5 in 3 other subjects; and
  • A total of 19 points or less for English, Mathematics and three other subjects (ELMAB3)*

* Eligible, graduating GCE N(A) students enrolled during the January intake under the Direct Entry Scheme to Polytechnic Programme (DPP) will undergo 10 weeks of preparatory programme, followed by 2 years of Higher Nitec training.

Higher Nitec in Civil & Structural Engineering Design graduates may apply for progression to the following Work-Study Diploma courses at ITE:

Higher Nitec in Civil & Structural Engineering Design graduates with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0 and above may apply for progression to a Technical Engineer Diploma course at ITE. For more details on progression, please click here.

Higher Nitec in Civil & Structural Engineering Design graduates are employed by government departments, statutory boards and civil structural consultancy companies in the building and construction sector. They perform a crucial role of ensuring the structural drawings, civil engineering drawings and detailed drawings on structural building are produced to meet the needs of the users such as clients, contractors, authorities, consultants and building occupants, at the different stages of the project. Some of the job titles held by graduates include Civil & Structural Draftsman, Technical Executive, Technical Officer and CAD Designer.
