This course equips trainees with the skills, knowledge and professional attributes to manage refraction cases and provide good ophthalmic solutions to meet the eye care needs of various patient profiles. Trainees will learn advanced refraction techniques, how to create good myopia management plans, manage challenging dispensing cases, effective communication skills and how to use various diagnostic ophthalmic instruments.
Prerequisite:
- Work well with others in a team environment
- Customer service oriented and able to articulate professional advice
- Able to work retail hours
Job role:
An Optician (Dip) is an eye care professional who prescribes and dispenses optical aids, manages refractive errors and provides good ophthalmic solutions. He/she may work in a variety of settings such as independent or joint practice, in a hospital, eye care centre, optical laboratory or retail store.
Work-Study Training Pattern:
Day Release - One to two days of classroom lessons per week at ITE, with the remaining work-week spent at the workplace for On-the-Job Training.
