Imagine being the first on the scene to save a life, the critical link between chaos and calm. This Work-Study Diploma course aims to equip trainees with deepened and broadened skillsets as required by the changing pre-hospital emergency care landscape. As a paramedic, you’ll harness your medical skills and quick thinking to provide urgent care in high-stress situations. Graduates take on the roles as crew leaders in emergency ambulances, perform patient care independently and institute life saving measures which can include procedures and medications.

 

Prerequisite:

  • Able to work well with others in a team environment
  • Able to work long hours under time constraints
  • Possess physical mobility, mental agility and the ability to react quickly
  • Possess attentiveness to safety, dealing with non-routine situations
  • Able to show empathy, interaction with strangers
  • Possess fine and gross psychomotor skills, sensor (Visual, hearing) ability, communication skills

 

Job Role:

A paramedic is a healthcare provider who leads a team to provide patient care in the pre-hospital settings.  

The paramedic works under the direction and supervision of a physician who provides the clinical guidelines which underscores the scope that the paramedics can practice under his charge. 

The work he/she performs includes the following: 

  • Maintain operational readiness
  • Perform clinical assessment for different age groups (young, adult, geriatric)
  • Manage trauma situations
  • Manage medical conditions
  • Manage special situations
  • Perform administrative duties
  • Engage in work improvement
  • Supervise, train and mentor emergency medical technician and trainees
  • Engage in professional learning and development

 

Training pattern:

Block Release (subject to changes) -- Trainees attend daily lessons at ITE for a continuous period and then resume the next block of OJT at the workplace.

Entry Requirements

 

Applicants must meet the following minimum entry requirements:

ITE graduates from any one of the following courses + pass company screening & interview;

    • Nitec with GPA ≥ 2

Note: Applicants applying for this course must be free from colour appreciation deficiency.  A score of 100% from the Colour Blindness Test taken here is mandatory for course admission.
