More than 400 students were celebrated at the annual ITE Student Achievers’ Awards Ceremony at ITE Headquarters today. These students were recognised for their all-round accomplishments and excellence in various fields such as the arts, sports, co-curricular activities, and technological advancements.

Of the 417 students, 53 received the prestigious Lee Kuan Yew (LKY) Awards – namely, the LKY Model Student/Trainee Award, the LKY Co-Curricular (CCA) Award, and the LKY Technology Award. A brief on what the various LKY Awards entail can be found in Annex A.

The remaining 365 students received the ITE Arts Excellence Award, ITE Sports Excellence Award, ITE CCA Medal, ITE Student Commendation Award and Keppel Care Foundation Scholarship.

The award recipients have put forth their utmost, pouring in hard work, determination, and perseverance to earn this recognition. Each recipient has a unique story to share – be it overcoming challenges, chasing their dreams and aspirations, contributing to society, or simply striving to make a difference in the world wherever possible. Every student award winner has attained success in his or her own distinctive way.

Finding her Light

Despite scoring distinctions for her N-level exams, Ryka decided to enrol at ITE as she wanted to further her studies as soon as possible. A trip to an open house at the Singapore Maritime Academy piqued her interest in the maritime industry and she decided to work towards a career in it. However, just before her exams in the first term, Ryka had to move out of her home by herself. Lost and alone, Ryka turned to her lecturer for help. Within a week, her lecturer found her a place to stay and made sure she settled in well. Relieved, Ryka could focus on her studies and went on to do well in her exams.

Although Ryka had no parental support and needed to clock over 40 hours a week in part-time work to pay for rent and make ends meet, she remained diligent and focused on doing her best in school. She credits her leadership skills, drive, and ability to remain calm and rational to her lecturers, and the friends she made at ITE. Despite her challenges, Ryka rose above them, excelling as a student leader and team member, while also finding time to give back to the community whenever she is able to. For her, that is one way to show her gratitude for the help she had received. Ryka is a winner of the 2025 LKY Model Student Award. She graduated from ITE College Central with a Higher Nitec in Offshore & Marine Engineering Design in 2025.

A Helping Hand

Ensuring patient safety in hospitals and care facilities is an ongoing challenge. Many bedridden patients, whether eager to regain independence or hesitant to call for help, attempt to get up on their own, increasing their risk of falls and serious injuries. At the same time, caregivers must manually check catheter bags, a repetitive and time-consuming task that, if overlooked, can lead to bladder overexpansion, infections, and severe medical complications.

To tackle these issues, a team of students from ITE College East’s Higher Nitec in Security System Integration developed 'Just in Time', a smart caregiver bed system with automated real-time monitoring capabilities. Equipped with motion and water level sensors, the system detects patient movement and catheter bag fill levels, instantly alerting caregivers via mobile notifications. This ensures timely intervention, enhancing both patient safety and caregiver efficiency. The team is a winner of the 2025 LKY Technology Award.
