Today, the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) announced it is collaborating with Intel to launch the Intel® AI For Youth  program in Singapore. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been identified as one of the four emerging technologies to drive Singapore’s digital economy, and this program aims to transform the way people live and work in the nation by empowering youth with AI skills in an inclusive way.

The program is intended to help youth develop a deep understanding of AI, by demystifying the technology, and equipping youth with the skillset and mindset required for AI readiness. The program is also intended to democratise access to AI toolsets, and at the same time, train youth to be able to use them skilfully to create AI solutions that drive meaningful social impact.

ITE is building and rolling out a world-class AI Experience Lab in collaboration with Intel, with the aim of targeting up to 15,000 ITE students. This will be done in phases, with roll-out starting with the School of Electronics & Info-comm Technology in ITE College West in Phase 1, followed by implementation in all Schools in ITE College West at the end of Phase 2, with the final phase culminating in implementation across ITE as a whole.

Intel® AI For Youth program has modular, hands-on, engaging content relating to Computer Vision, Data and Natural Language Programming delivered by certified coaches in an AI lab setting. It demystifies, democratizes AI and builds an AI-ready next generation of impact creators & problem solvers.

Intel will provide ITE Colleges with access to technologies such as OpenVino, Intel NUC, Intel Movidius and Intel RealSense to create a flexible, open infrastructure for its AI Labs. The students are presented with the opportunity to showcase their projects for real-world problems, and will receive a certificate at the end of the program.

Ms Low Khah Gek, Chief Executive Officer, ITE, said: “The ITE-Intel partnership and AI for Youth programme will go a long way in equipping our students with AI social and technical skills for real-world applications. Beyond this, it will also provide opportunity for us to develop new CET programmes that would give adult learners the exposure to AI elements, and allow them to be AI-ready at work.”

Dr. Anjan Ghosh, Global Director – Program, Partnership and Policy Group, Intel Corporation, said, “Intel is excited to partner with the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) in Singapore on the Intel® AI For Youth program. We are committed to democratizing AI by empowering youth with the necessary AI skills. We expect ITE students to gain the necessary tech and social skills for real-world AI applications. We congratulate ITE leadership for taking this visionary step to build AI readiness amongst students to prepare for the future.”

ITE Singapore is the first deployment of the Intel® AI For Youth program in ASEAN countries. The program has already been implemented in India, South Korea, and Poland.
