New Courses to Enhance Progression and Career Opportunities for ITE Students
The Institute of Technical Education (ITE) will be introducing three new Higher Nitec courses in April 2019 to cater to industry demand for skilled manpower. The new Higher National ITE Certificate (Higher Nitec) courses that will be rolled out are:
-
Higher Nitec in Culinary Arts
-
Higher Nitec in Motion Graphics
-
Higher Nitec in Visual Effects
Building Deep Skills
With the rising number of Food & Beverage (F&B) businesses, employment opportunities in the industry have been growing. The new Higher Nitec in Culinary Arts programme is a one- year course open only to Nitec in Asian Culinary Arts (ACA) and Nitec in Western Culinary Arts (WCA) graduates. GCE ‘O’ level school leavers will have to be equipped with foundational skills and knowledge, through the Nitec in ACA and WCA courses, before they are eligible for the Higher Nitec programme.
“The new Higher Nitec in Culinary Arts course is a wonderful platform with vast potential to develop future leaders in the culinary field. It will bring out the participants’ potential in their academic and employability skills. I am positive that this fresh offering on top of the other relevant programmes at ITE will be a success,” said Mr Cheong Hai Poh, President of the International Food and Beverage Association.
The local media industry has been evolving too. To meet the changing industry demands and build stronger skill competencies for visual effects artists, the current Nitec in Visual Effects course will be replaced by the new Higher Nitec in Visual Effects course. Similarly, the new Higher Nitec in Motion Graphics course has been developed in response to the growing industry need for trained artists in creative services and post-production work.
More information on the new Higher Nitec courses to be offered in April 2019 can be found in Annex A. Details on the full-time Higher Nitec courses in April 2019 for GCE ‘O’ Level holders and their entry requirements can be found in Annex B.
