Factsheet - ignITE Skills Challenge 2022

News details
  • Publish date:19 May 2022

The ignITE Skills Challenge is an annual national-level skills competition organised by the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) with support from the Ministry of Education. The competition is in its sixth edition this year.

As the only national skills competition for Normal stream students in Singapore, it aims to excite them about the value of skills education. Challenges are designed to be fun and engaging, so as to make learning enjoyable and memorable. Students form teams of three to compete in each challenge.

This year’s competition features 16 skills challenges, including 10 new skills challenges (more details can be found in Annex A). This is the largest number, since the competition was first held in 2016. Participating students were required to attend a training workshop by ITE or a relevant MOE CAT ‘A’ Elective Module, before competing in the preliminary rounds. This served to equip them with the necessary skills for the competition.

Finals

After the preliminary rounds, finalists were shortlisted to compete in the Finals on 19 May 2022. The programme of the Finals can be found in Annex B. This year marks the return of the Finals as a physical event, following its virtual format in 2021 due to the pandemic. The top three teams of each challenge will win trophies and medals. The school which wins the most number of medals will receive the Champion Trophy.

Mr Eric Chua, Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth & Ministry of Social and Family Development, will be presenting the awards to the winners at the Finals.
