Ever wondered what kind of chemicals we can extract from unprocessed crude oil and how many types of chemicals such as our daily consumption of gasoline we can generate from them?

This course equips trainees with the skills, knowledge and professional attributes to execute and maintain safe and reliable plant/laboratory operations which includes performing unit and utility operations, basic maintenance work, process control system operations and biopharmaceutical operations, in accordance to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Trainees are also equipped to manage quality assurance and quality control processes to meet customers’ requirement.

Prerequisite:

Free from colour appreciation deficiency.

Job Role: 

A Process Technician executes and maintains safe and reliable plant operation by performing routine process unit and utility works at the plant site, as well as basic frontline maintenance, in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). He/she also monitors process parameters, performs in-process sampling and basic testing to customer requirements.

The work he/she performs may include the following:

  • Maintain health, safety, security and environmental standards
  • Manage emergency response and crisis
  • Perform process unit and utility works
  • Perform basic equipment maintenance
  • Maintain plant operation

Entry Requirements

Applicants must meet the following minimum entry requirements:

  1. ITE graduates from any one of the following courses + pass company screening & interview;

    Nitec with GPA ≥ 2:

    • Chemical Process Technology
    • Mechanical Technology
    • Electrical Technology

    Higher Nitec:

    • Biotechnology
    • Chemical Technology
    • Electrical Engineering
    • Mechanical Engineering

    OR

  2. In-service employees+ with:
    • Equivalent qualifications such as Workplace Literacy & Numeracy (WPLN) Level 5 and above
    • Relevant work experience
    • Strong employer endorsement

+In-service employee may be invited for an admission interview

Work-Study Diploma in Chemical Process Technology graduates are employed by companies in the Energy & Chemicals Sector. The job titles held by graduates include Process Technician. There are excellent opportunities for career advancement to Lead Technician, Supervisor and Superintendent.
