This course trains you for a hands-on career in smart technology and data systems, where you’ll help build and support the digital solutions used in industries like manufacturing, logistics, and smart buildings.

As a trainee, you will learn how to:

  • Set up and program smart devices such as sensors and controllers
  • Connect these devices to the internet to collect useful data
  • Manage and process data so it can be used to improve business operations
  • Build cloud dashboards and simple tools to display and analyze data
  • Troubleshoot and maintain IoT systems in real-world environments
  • Work in teams to support digital projects and improve system performance

By combining technical training with real work experience, this diploma prepares you for job roles such as IoT technician, Electronics assistance engineer or smart systems support specialist.

Prerequisite:

To join the Work-Study Diploma in Electronics & Computer Engineering (IoT & Data Engineering), you should:

  • Have a Nitec or Higher Nitec qualification in a related field such as Electronics, IT, or Engineering
  • Be able to commit to both work and study components of the programme
  • Have basic computer skills and are comfortable using software and digital tools
  • Possess a positive attitude towards continuous learning and adapting to new technologies
  • Have a keen interest in technology, problem-solving, and hands-on learning

Relevant work experience or strong interest in IoT and data technologies will be an advantage.

 

Job Role:

Graduates of this programme can take on roles in companies that use smart technologies and data systems to improve operations. You may work in sectors such as manufacturing, logistics, facilities management, or smart city development.

Possible job roles include:

  • IoT Technician – Set up and maintain smart sensors, devices, and systems
  • Smart Systems Support Specialist – Provide technical support for IoT and automation systems
  • Cloud & Device Integration Assistant – Assist in linking hardware devices with cloud platforms
  • Digital Operations Support – Support the day-to-day running of connected systems and data dashboards

Work-Study Training Pattern:

Day Release - One to two days of classroom lessons per week at ITE, with the remaining work-week spent at the workplace for On-the-Job Training.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must meet the following minimum entry requirements:

  1. ITE graduates from any one of the following courses + pass company screening & interview;

    Nitec with GPA ≥ 2:

    • All courses from School of Electronics & Info-Comm Technology
    • All courses from School of Engineering

    Higher Nitec

    • All courses from School of Electronics & Info-Comm Technology
    • All courses from School of Engineering

    OR

  2. In-service employees+ with:
    • Equivalent qualifications such as Workplace Literacy & Numeracy (WPLN) Level 5 and above
    • Relevant work experience
    • Strong employer endorsement

+In-service employee may be invited for an admission interview
