This course provides students with the skills and knowledge in analysing and resolving complex technical problems associated with motor vehicles, managing workshop maintenance and repair services, and rendering technical advice and providing workshop services to motorists.

The course comprises a total of 2,000 hours of which 400 hours may be dedicated to company-based on-the-job training (OJT). Students are assessed based on in-course assessments such as practical tests, class tests, projects as well as written examinations.

To apply for the Technical Engineer Diploma (TED) in Automotive Engineering course, you need to be a Singapore Citizen with the following ITE qualifications:

Applicants with the following qualifications who meet the minimum academic requirements and have at least 1 year of relevant work experience in automotive after-sales (may include occupations relating to vehicle mechanics or technicians and customer service advisors) can be considered for admission:

  • Relevant ITE CET Higher Nitec in Technology (GPA of 2.0 and above)
  • Relevant ITE CET Nitec in Technology (GPA of 3.0 and above)
  • Relevant Workforce Skills Qualification (WSQ) diplomas and Level 6 WSQ Workplace Literacy and Workplace Numeracy

Working adults with at least 2 years of relevant work experience can be considered for admission. 

Note:

Shortlisted applicants must attend an interview and pass an aptitude test to be considered for admission.

In line with industry requirements, applicants applying for the Technical Engineer Diploma in Automotive Engineering course must ensure that they are free from colour appreciation deficiency.

Successful students will be required to purchase a laptop which will cost about $900 - $1,900 for the 2-year course. This is in addition to the course fees. Progression Opportunities

Graduates of the TED in Automotive Engineering course may be considered for admission to the related NUS Bachelor of Technology Programmes and related degree programmes in the Singapore Institute of Technology.

To apply for further studies at Universities of Applied Sciences in Germany, TED graduates will be required to fulfil 1.5 years of relevant work experience. Relevant work experience acquired before the TED in Automotive Engineering course may be recognised (including relevant internships and work experience gained prior and during training at Nitec and Higher Nitec levels).

Applicants are required to meet the minimum entry requirements, specified for the course, as stipulated by the respective Universities for admission.

Career Opportunities

Graduates can look forward to an attractive starting pay of between $2,000 and $2,400 in the automotive industry.  Job titles of graduates may include Service Advisor, Automotive Technical Executive, Workshop Executive, Automotive Engineer and After-sales Engineer. There are excellent opportunities for career development and advancements to supervisory positions and beyond.
