Ever wonder what is the size of a ship engine and how much power can be generated? How does an engine as high as a four-storey building, churning out in excess of 100,000 horse power sound to you?

This diploma course prepares you for a professional career in the Marine & Offshore sector. Through the Engineering Design specialisation, you will be equipped with the skills and knowledge in the design of ships and marine systems, while the Production (Repair & Maintenance) specialisation will equip you with skills and knowledge in the repair and maintenance of ships and various marine systems.

What you'll learn

  • Ensure compliance to shipyard’s health, safety and environment management practices
  • Compile design data from databases and existing designs
  • Perform system design calculations
  • Perform engineering design calculations involving marine offshore structures, equipment and systems
  • Verify engineering reports for marine operation procedures
  • Translate hand sketches and tracing drawings into technical drawings
  • Perform project coordination and documentation

  2. A minimum GPA of 2.0 is required for Nitec graduate, while no GPA is required for Higher Nitec graduate.
  3. Male graduates must have completed or be exempted from full-time National Service.
Applicants with any Nitec / Higher Nitec qualifications, relevant work experience and support from their employers that are participants of the WSDip programme can also apply. Non-ITE graduates with relevant experience and strong employer endorsement will also be considered. Non-ITE graduates without GCE ‘O’ Level qualification should preferably have Workplace Literacy & Numeracy (WPLN) Level 5.

Progression Opportunities

Graduates may be considered for admission to related full-time degree programmes in local universities, subject to meeting the admission requirements of the respective programmes.

Career Opportunities

Work-Study Diploma in Marine & Offshore Engineering graduates are employed by Ship Management Operations and Ship Building company. The job titles held by graduates include Assistant Engineer (Operations) and Assistant Engineer (Production).

There are excellent opportunities for career advancement to Engineer, Lead Engineer and Superintendent.
