Do you know the fastest lift in the world travels at over 70km/h? While we hope this essential service could move a little faster, have you ever wondered what will happen if a lift exceeds its design speed?

This diploma course prepares you for a professional career in the Built Environment sector. You will be equipped with the skills and knowledge to manage and supervise new lift installation or upgrading projects, as well as perform high-level lift inspections, maintenance, servicing and fault diagnostics, in compliance with all relevant standards, regulations and codes of practice.

Prerequisite:

Skillful, motivated team player, who aspire to lead and work with a team of different categories of worker; good initiatives, troubleshooting & fault finding skills; to provide essential lift services to the community. Trainees must have good communication skills to provide advice customers and clients; administration skills to perform report documentation and record work done.

Job Role:

Assistant Lift Engineer / Principal Specialist / Supervisor – Supervises/Manages a team in carrying out new lift installation; modernisation – or upgrading projects; as well as to perform lift inspection with Authorised Engineers; higher competencies in maintenance, servicing and fault diagnostics, in compliance with all relevant standards, regulations and codes of practice.

What you'll learn

  • Advise client on lift upgrade
  • Troubleshoot lift fault and problem
  • Conduct investigation on lift incident
  • Perform contract management and administration
  • Supervise lift installation, inspection, testing and commissioning
  • Supervise technical workforce in accordance with contractual requirements and in compliance with relevant standards, regulations and codes of practices

Entry Requirements

Applicants must meet the following minimum entry requirements:

  1. ITE graduates from any one of the following courses + pass company screening & interview;

    Nitec with GPA ≥ 2:

    • All courses from School of Engineering
    • All courses from School of Electronics & Info-Comm Technology
    • Lift & Escalator Techology

    Higher Nitec:

    • All courses from School of Engineering
    • All courses from School of Electronics & Info-Comm Technology

    OR

  2. In-service employees+ with:
    • Equivalent qualifications such as Workplace Literacy & Numeracy (WPLN) Level 5 and above
    • Relevant work experience
    • Strong employer endorsement

+In-service employee may be invited for an admission interview

Career Opportunities

Work-Study Diploma in Vertical Transportation graduates are employed by companies that market, install and/or provide maintenance services for lifts. Some of the job titles that are held by graduates include Senior Specialist and Principal Specialist.

There are excellent opportunities for career advancement to higher supervisory positions and beyond.
