You have always been interested in machines. You have the desire to do something hands-on and even take things apart just to satisfy your curiosity.

If these statements describe you, you should apply for this course! You will learn to install, service, troubleshoot and repair machinery, pumping systems, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, perform computer-aided design & drafting, 3D Printing, Internet of Things (IoT), predictive maintenance of engineering system and rectification of basic electrical faults. In the workplace, you will ensure the smooth and efficient operation of machinery and engineering equipment by carrying out preventive and predictive maintenance, inspection as well as re-conditioning of machine parts.

What you'll learn

  • Interpret technical drawings and hydraulic/pneumatic circuit diagrams
  • Carry out preventive maintenance and inspection on machinery and equipment
  • Fabricate and re-condition machine parts using basic hand-tools and power hand-tools and drilling machines
  • Install, service, troubleshoot, repair and overhaul basic machine tools, pumps, valves, compressors and conveyor systems
  • Install, service, troubleshoot and repair basic hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Install pipework system
  • Rectify electrical faults of machinery

GCE 'N' Technical students with 0 or 1 'N' Level Pass

Occupation Traits and Functional Ability Requirements

Nature of Work Functional Abilities
Mechanical Servicing Technicians install, maintain, troubleshoot, rectify and perform functional checks on machinery & equipment and their related components by carrying out work in accordance with approved servicing manuals and relevant technical instructions to ensure that the machinery and equipment are functioning efficiently and safely.  
While fabricating and re-conditioning machine parts, they are required to work effectively and safely with basic hand-tools and power hand-tools, drilling machines, lathes and milling machines. physical mobility, hand & finger dexterity, attentiveness to safety
They are required to identify possible causes, symptoms and remedies of mechanical faults found in machinery like vibration faults associated with machinery maintenance. sensory (hearing) ability
They are required to communicate to their supervisors and/or end-users the issues and problems for appropriate decision-making. communication skills, interpersonal skills
